Boston’s premier bandleader Rudy Osborne leader of D’ Midas International recently announced that he was not bringing a band on the road for Boston’s 2011 carnival season. He sited his disgust with organizers as his primary reason for doing so.
Our sources said, the winners for last season’s carnival have not received any prize monies from the organizing committee as of this update 4/3/11. And what seems to be a lack of communication with the band leaders, leaves them very frustrated with what they see as a disrespect of the bandleaders by the organizing committee The Caribbean American Carnival day Association of Boston (CACAB) Last year a similar situation took place and another top band D’ Horizon did not participate.
On a community radio program aired last Saturday on Big City radio 101.3 by host Garry Banton - Clarity House several callers expressed their surprise that D’ Midas will not be on the road for 2011 and also expressed concern for the future of Boston Carnival. The segment was extended to next Saturday show, scheduled to air at 5:00 PM on Big City Radio 101.3 Saturday 9, 2011, one of the guest is the founder of this website Boston Carnival Village Online Mr. Michael C. Smith, he brings a unique perspective to the debate in that he was a member of CACAB and has spoken extensively with all band leaders and has a unique insight of their problems. His portfolio includes the survey he conducted in 2005 on Boston Carnival and has presented a photography exhibition on Boston carnival called “Streets of Color".
